How PDO Threads Work and What to Expect in Your Consultation in Amarillo

Jennifer Dillon, Founder of Ohzone Clinics and Ohzone Medical, sits down with Ohzone Medical Director Dr. Joe Cleaver to discuss the PDO thread procedure. In our aesthetics division at Ohzone Medical, we have proprietary PDO Thread protocols.

Dr. Cleaver has been using PDO threads on patients for aesthetics procedures for 12 years and he knows the success of the threads is dependent on the experience of the “threader” or “practitioner”, and the quality of the threads. All the threads used at Ohzone Medical are in fact cleared by the FDA and approved for the lifting of sagging skin.

Dr. Cleaver walks us through a basic consultation for this procedure by demonstrating how he assesses the patient’s skin by drawing vectors on the area of the skin to be treated. He notes that how well the threads will perform is also dependent on the thickness of the patient’s skin and how much fat or subcutaneous tissue the patient has. Part of the assessment for the patient is drawing vectors on the patient’s skin. The vectors are extremely important because the lifting or the angle of the lifting is key to the success of the PDO threads outcome.

After the vectors are drawn, the threading process can begin. The PDO thread is placed beneath the skin with a canula, or blunt tip needle, to lift the area being targeted. Barbed threads are designed to attach to the tissue several layers down in the subcutaneous plane. Once placed, the targeted area often appears firmer and lifted, giving off a more youthful appearance. Commonly treated areas include the lower face, around the “jowls”, neck, or even the brow area.
